Thurrock Festival 2020

The pandemic gave us a wonderful opportunity to establish Thurrock Festival Digital (TFD 2020) with its extensive sweep of creative work and exciting premieres scheduled for 19th Sep. Some of these will be under the banner of C19CC which stands for Covid-19 Creative Collection, activities produced during lockdown in Thurrock. Most of the content is still available.

We were delighted that our creative recycling activities chimed so resonantly with World Clean Up Day and the Great British September Clean!

Local lad, Ashley Palipana BCyA, was not live at Grays Wharf after all. But he will still be a chirpy presence online to introduce new content leading up to Christmas, our artists and their presentations at TFD 2020.

THURROCK FESTIVAL (LIVE) 2020 | 12-2.30pm Sat 19th Sep

In partnership with Kinetika’s T100 Mandalas project, a substantial public participatory mandala was created at Grays Wharf along the Thames, south of Grays High Street. Spaces were limited due to Covid – 19 restrictions and only 6 places were available.

MANDI, a large recycled plastic puppet, sprung stunningly to life from a secret location. An acronym for Mandala Adored Nobel Deity Icon, she has been created by local artists Cece Luna. She will be dancing to specially composed pieces from her Treasure Chest of Music.

A banner of Ketna Patel’s 4 metre W.T.F. artwork is now be online with Ketna explaining its fascinating symbolism to us.

Our mandala theme marked the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

FESTIVAL TEASERS 2020

Over time, Thurrock has woven rich tapestries of pilgrims trails, pirates, the Commonwealth and maritime activities. Stretched along the Thames, it is garlanded with historical ports, wildlife sanctuaries and a diversity of peoples.

The team is busy planning for Christmas and 2021 content. We are looking for anyone that would be interested in taking part, either by running an activity of their own, performing at the event, or having a stall to promote their community group.
