Ganga Thapa introduces his connection as Associate Artists | Music | Nepal

A Song From Nepal has ben specially composed for Thurrock Festival Digital 2020 by Ganga Thapa in respect of the Nepalese community in Thurrock and the contribution Gurkhas have and continue to make to Britain.

Ganga Thapa is a dynamic and versatile musician, composer, multi-instrumentalist and promoter from Nepal. To broaden his interest and experience in global world music, he moved to London where he spent many years.

He graduated from SOAS, University Of London, in ethnomusicology. He has collaborated with a variety of international musicians and his ongoing interest in Nepali, Indian classical and West African music has led to a number of collaborations. He released his debut album ‘Namlo’ in 2017, which merged a unique blend of beautiful melodies and irresistible rhythms inspired by the diverse folk traditions, cultures and landscapes of Nepal. Ganga has featured on BBC Radio 3’s Global Beats show and has played at the Southbank Centre, Liberty Festival in Queen Elizabeth Park, BT River Music Festival, London Jazz Festival, Greenwich & Dockland Festival, Union Chapel and Rich Mix, amongst others. Recently, he produced Sounds of the World Live music concert series in partnership with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre, which was funded by The Big Lottery.

He is an Associated Member of ABRSM (Royal Music of School) and London College of Music Exam; Sounds of the world.

He is Composer, Vocalist, Guitarist and Band Leader at Namlo Band.

He is currently leading a music hub in Kathmandu, Nepal that provides music education and music production opportunities for all children and young people. It also hosts music workshops, performances, and live events.
